Opalanga Pugh presents programs that not only harness the power of stories to instruct and inspire, but stories that bridge youth and age, culture with culture, and tradition with technology.
STORIES MAKE A DIFFERENCE Storytelling is a tool for personal development, a vehicle for education and a catalyst for social change. In this workshop, Opalanga explores some of the tools, values and practical applications of story and metaphor. HIGH TECH/HIGH TOUCH The demands of an information society have inundated the training and development field with new technology. Opalanga uses storytelling as a communication technology for enriching organizational culture and balancing "high tech" with "soft touch." Stories can be an innovative learning tool offering insights on cultural diversity and organizational change. THE PEOPLE COULD FLY This program salutes the African American's ability to historically and metaphorically rise above adversity. Using songs, dramatic interpretations of historical writings, rap, and percussion instruments, Opalanga weaves living history that honors African American historical figures throughout the ages. These figures include Sojourner Truth, Dr. Justina Ford, Aunt Clara Brown, Jim Beckworth, High John, and Winnie Mandela. PERSONAL STORIES This is an opportunity to practice the ancient art of storytelling. In this workshop, Opalanga Pugh takes participants on a journey through the local stories of their individual selves and connects with the "high" stories of universal wisdom they represent. The workshop provides tools of the trade, courage for the timid, and innovations for the experienced.
