HEALTH PROMOTION IN THE 21ST CENTURY
Bill Hettler has been a driving force in health promotion and wellness for more than twenty years. As a pioneer he defined (and defended with zeal) the wellness concept as it emerged. In 1975, he co-founded the National Wellness Institute and guided it to the dominant position it holds today. Now Hettler points to the future and shows how the practice of medicine will move beyond a disease care delivery system to incorporate the health of the individual as a primary goal. Computerized health informatics will create an alliance between the client and the medical or health promotion system. Choices will be better informed and responsibility will be shared. Bill is known as a visionary who provides the creative ideas that have led to programs of national importance. And creative he is, as he projects the joy of a healthy lifestyle in an inimitable fashion that has entranced health professionals, the corporate world and delegates to wellness conferences worldwide. SIX DIMENSIONS OF GLOBAL WELLNESS Bill Hettler, MD explores the inextricable connection of the well-being of humans and the well-being of the planet in which they live. In this presentation, the original "Six Dimensions of Personal Wellness" devised by Hettler and used by 150 universities is integrated with his global wellness dimensions. Our job is to be custodians of the planet. So far, were committing major malpractice. Bills assessment of world environment pulls no punches. His presentation outlines the "Six Dimensions of Global Wellness," including the quality of our air and water, ways to develop sustainable agriculture and energy, the management of waste and toxic materials, and the protection of natural spaces. Bills knowledge of environmental and human wellness around the world is first-hand. He has helped establish wellness programs in Japan, Australia, Germany, England, Canada, and South Africa. |
