Ahnna Lake, MD

“Staying Well in Changing Times”

• RECLAIMING THE DIGNITY AND JOY OF BEING A PHYSICIAN: Adaptable to other professions

The pressures doctors face in the course of their careers are enormous. Even in the best of times the personal costs of the practice of medicine can be high, but now, with sweeping changes in the health care system, and widespread uncertainty about where doctors will “fit in,” these costs have become dangerously high. Doctors are experiencing increased rates of burnout, depression and career disillusionment.

In this presentation, Ahnna Lake reports on key concepts and strategies in the developing field of physician well-being. The institutional and personal obstacles that prevent doctors from focussing their undivided attention on the practice of medicine are identified and confronted. The physical and emotional integrity of the physician as a person is recognized as the basis of enhancing career longevity.

This presentation is highly adaptable to other high-level professions. Dr. Lake has, for example, presented this to groups of dentists, attorneys, and corporate executives with great success.

• ALTERNATIVES TO BEING ALL THINGS TO ALL PEOPLE ALL THE TIME

Is it true that if we were only organized enough we really could do it all? And is it a myth or reality that if we could do it all we would be happier? Society is filled with busy people overwhelmed by the demands of complex daily lives. Is there really a practical alternative to the harried, fragmented lifestyle of the 90’s?
